FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Adult Career and Continuing Education Services-Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR) Offices to Reopen Today, August 2 With COVID-19 Protocols in Place
The 色中色鈥檚 Adult Career and Continuing Education Services-Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR) Offices will reopen to the public by appointment today, August 2, with COVID-19 protocols in place, State Education Commissioner Betty A. Rosa announced.
鈥淒uring the pandemic, many New Yorkers were not comfortable participating in in-person job development, on-the-job training, work-based learning or other vocational rehabilitation activities,鈥 said Chancellor Lester W. Young, Jr. 鈥淲e know that when individuals receive the supports necessary to gain employment and live independently, they lead happier, healthier lives and contribute to their communities which is why we are pleased to be able to once again offer these services in person at our ACCES-VR offices statewide.鈥
鈥淲e are very excited about reopening our ACCES-VR offices to the public and assisting New Yorkers with disabilities with their career and employment goals in person,鈥 said Commissioner Rosa. 鈥淚n addition to in-person by appointment meetings, virtual services will continue to be available to meet the needs of all individuals.鈥
ACCES-VR assists individuals with disabilities to achieve and maintain employment and to support independent living through training, education, rehabilitation and career development.
The 色中色 believes that individuals with disabilities can benefit from vocational rehabilitation services and should have opportunities to work in jobs integrated within their communities.听 Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors guide individuals through service programs they need to reach their employment goal.
During the pandemic, all ACCES-VR services were provided remotely: applications could be submitted on line or via postal mail; meetings with Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors were conducted by phone or teleconferencing; and videos were posted on the website with information about ACCES-VR services and the application process. To ensure access for all individuals, remote services will continue to be made available.
